Colorado during the winter is simply beautiful. You do not have to look far to find snow-capped mountains and pristine scenery. It is the ideal time of year to take your Jeep out of storage and hit up one of the many mountainous trails in the area. Make sure you purchase one of the many wheel and tire packages available at an online off road shop Denver so that you can hit the trails in style.
Yankee Hill / St. Mary’s Trail
Many Jeep enthusiasts want to traverse a high summit, but they will not be able to reach the top of the Rockies. Your next best bet will be to head for Yankee Hill, which will give you the same kind of thrilling experience you can only get in a Jeep. It is a short but intense climb as you will reach extraordinarily high peaks. Once you get to the top, you can enjoy the sight of St. Mary’s glacier. It is about two hours away from both Denver and Colorado Springs, and it is the perfect climb for beginning Jeep enthusiasts.
China Wall
Another excellent trail for beginners is China Wall. You will want to make sure you have some all terrain tires on your vehicle before you head out for this excursion. When you take this path, you will ascend on one side of the hill, making your way through a moderate dirt road between all of the trees. Once you reach the top, you will descend down the other side, reaching a small valley. The total time you will need to get through everything is about two hours. However, you may need to add some time to your run if it is snowing out as it can make the road a bit more difficult to drive on.
Mount Baldy
When you travel southwest of Colorado Springs, you will come across Mount Baldy. It is a popular destination for locals thanks to its uncapped peak. It overlooks one of Colorado’s biggest natural lakes, meaning this is one trail you definitely want to take your time on. There are plenty of laidback trails for when you want to take it easy, but there are also some rocky areas that will require a bit more attention.
Slaughterhouse Gulch
Do not let the daunting name fool you. Slaughterhouse Gulch is an immensely rewarding trail for beginners and experts alike. You will find approximately 11 miles of moderately-trafficked trail located just outside of Bailey. As you drive along, you will find gorgeous wildflowers. The trail is recommended between March and November, so make sure to get in there at the beginning of the season to take in all of the sights.
These are just a few of the trails you will find around Colorado. Some will take a couple of hours while others will take an entire afternoon. No matter what, you will have a fantastic time with your Jeep out on the open Colorado trails. You just need to make sure you purchase all of the Jeep accessories you need ahead of time so that you can be ready for anything.
