The rat race as I define it is trading your time for money in order to cover your living expenses. How deep you are in the rat race depends entirely on how much you spend and how much cash you have coming in.
How far you are out of the rat race is measured by the amount of time you can survive if you had to stop working immediately. Imagine for some reason you could no longer work. How long would you be able to survive with the cash you have saved or coming in, without you having to work for it?
Most don’t like to answer this question because it makes them nervous. But think about it and calculate the time. One week. One month, one year or perhaps even indefinitely (If indefinitely, skip this article and drop us a line so we can tell your story).
Whatever your number, your goal is to have it be indefinitely, and no you don’t need to be a billionaire to reach this. A couple of grand a month would do it for most people.
