One of Jeff Bridges’ most iconic and best loved characters is undoubtedly ‘The Dude’. He went into the Coen Brothers’ film, The Big Lebowski, to bring to life a cult hero. Instead, the Academy award-winning actor transformed him into a cult God. And so it’s fitting that The Dude has teamed up with The Zen Master (Bernie Glassman, author of Bearing Witness) to create a new book called, unsurprisingly, The Dude And The Zen Master. The pair have been friends for more than a decade and it’s reflected in this touching, charming and laugh-out-loud funny book. Glassman, who is also Bridges’ Buddhist teacher, likened The Dude in The Big Lebowski to a Lamed-Vavnik, which in Jewish mysticism is a man who is “simple and unassuming, and so good that, on account of them, God lets the world go on.” The book is enlightening as well as entertaining, so it’s no surprise that it’s already become a New York Times bestseller.
