“Ted” was one of those films that had a hilarious first half on the strength of its ludicrous premise, that a teddy bear could come to life and be a foul-mouthed horn-dog who loves debauchery and Mark Wahlberg.
It’s the fact that there wasn’t enough material to complete one good film that makes the idea of “Ted 2” so puzzling.
Sure, we’re all excited to see the character again, and to be sure the “I, Robot” premise gives Ted something meaningful to do, but how often are sequels to films like this a success? As recently as earlier this year “Hot Tub Time Machine 2” showed that it’s hard to get lightning to strike twice. It just so rarely works.
But don’t fool yourself. You will, like me, go see this and give it a chance, even knowing the odds are you will come away disappointed. And that is fandom.
