The continuing increase in traffic congestion around Europe led to the release of some very scary statistics recently; road traffic accidents claim around 34,000 lives each year in the continent and leave 1.1 million people injured. Yikes. So Nissan went away, digested this information and have come back with the Safety Shield, a new feature for the Nissan Note. This model will be the first in the small car sector to embrace technology usually accustomed to luxury cars. The Safety Shield is comprised of three advanced safety systems – Blind Spot Warning, Lane Departure Warning and Moving Object Detection. Combining this with the car’s Around View Mirror offers optimum safety not only for the driver and his/her passengers but for those outside of the car too. The system (made up of a rear camera and three others positioned on the front grille and wing mirrors, and a 5.8-inch dashboard mounted screen which displays an image of the Note from above) works together to alert the driver of moving objects behind the vehicle, such as a child, when a vehicle is in the driver’s blind spot, and when a car is drifting out of its lane. Thanks to Nissan these statistics are sure to be reduced in numbers soon.
