Steampunk is a niche culture and fashion. But the watchmakers at Devon Tread 1 have created an exoskeleton watch in the style of steampunk, which is surely going to attract interest from a much wider audience. The huge squared face is protected within a bronze armour that has been oil rubbed to give it a distinctive coating. The case is made from 316L, which is a surgical-grade stainless steel, recognised as the toughest and most durable steel in the world. The watch strap is made from vintage leather while the moving parts are all made from brass. It’s a special timepiece that is the apple in the eye of the designers who are based in Los Angeles, California. What makes it so special is that it has been stripped down to the bare bones, so to speak, therefore revealing the complex technology that Devon pride themselves on; they adapted the same clever technology used in Boeing 747’s that’s used to display air speed. Though it’s not cheap, this timepiece sure is unrivalled in its field.
