Ever since the announcements (read: rumors) that the “Star Wars: Episode VII” trailer would only be seen on the big screen in select markets and theaters, fanboys have been flooding social media with groans, whines, and complaints. But it was always pretty obvious that the footage would make its way to the Interwebs, and it did today, in advance even of the much-ballyhooed big-screen premiere.
The trailer doesn’t show our iconic trio of Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, and Han Solo, but gives us glimpses at the updated effects and ships, as well as a few new characters. Our first is John Booyega, wearing what appears to be Stormtrooper armor, looking a little nervous and on the lam from someone.
We also get shots of new Stormtroopers in full suit in a personnel carrier, before getting the most tantalizing of images: a shadowy, mysterious figure we see only from behind, unleashing his red-bladed lightsaber, with two little flourishes: twin mini-lightsaber blades that give his weapon the look of a classic medieval sword.
Then, finally, the money shot: the Millenium Falcon, soaring planetside, locked in battle with TIE fighters in a spectacular, twisting, dizzying scene.
