Forever fans of unique, hybrid-type set ups — have we found a radical new concept to show you guys. With food and drink banned from most arcade establishments for fear of button stickiness and overall electronic destruction, the Button Mash restaurant from design firm Design, Bitches smashes this old adage with the unveiling of the “barcade”. Narrating a retro design tale that speaks of 80’s funk, the 4,000 square foot resto boasts three main areas — a dining area serving Asian fusion food, a pinball room, and a video arcade lined with classic titles, such as Tron and Donkey Kong.
The design is rooted in multiple LA-centric time periods, with nods to the 1980s and 1990s in material and color choices, mixed with the local haunt feel resonant in film noir classics like Chinatown.
