Many actors have made the transition from comedian or action star to “legit actor,” but Liam Neeson has done the opposite: going from an Oscar-caliber actor in decidedly adult films like “Michael Collins,” “Schindler’s List,” and “Gangs of New York” to a litany of mainstream action pics: the “Taken” series,” “Battleship,” a couple of “Titans” movies, and even a foray into “Star Wars.”
So it might not be a good omen that in the advance for “Run All Night,” Neeson has said he’s only going to make films of this type for about 2 more years. For all intents and purposes he’s saying “don’t worry, I won’t be making this crap forever.” So while he can’t be blamed for padding his bank account, it will be nice to see him make something really worthwhile.
In the meantime, we’ll continue to enjoy him even as he continues through this phase of less-than-stellar action pics where he displays his “particular set of skills.”
