Men, Women and Children

Technology and privacy are explored

A movie about the secrets we hide in an age where technology has removed virtually all privacy, and how interconnectedness has not cured the disease of human loneliness, “Men, Women, and Children” is the latest from director Jason Reitman.

With a stellar ensemble cast that includes Ansel Elgort (“The Fault in Our Stars”), Jennifer Garner, Judy Greer, and Adam Sandler, the trailer for “Children” shows the movie’s characters seeking solace in the sordid: a married man seeks an escort; a lonely wife has an affair; teens sext each other.

Reitman has mostly dazzled audiences with films like “Juno,” “Up in the Air” and “Thank You for Smoking,” and though he drew mixed reviews for “Young Adult” and “Labor Day,” he still is considered among the brightest young filmmakers working. If “Children” is as contemplative and emotional as trailers suggest, Reitman might have another hit on his hands.

“Men, Women and Children” opens October 17.
