Take four of cinema’s favorite things: dogs, kids, Marines, and true stories, throw them in a blender, pour and serve, and you have “Max,” the story of a German Shepherd Marine who, after being injured in combat (yes, really), comes home and befriends the family of his lost handler, particularly the young boy of the family (Josh Wiggins).
It’s hand-made for good, clean family fun, much like other based-on-a-true-story animal films, like the recent “Dolphin Tale” films, it doesn’t matter how good it is or is not.
But that doesn’t mean we don’t want our family-friendly fare to show a little quality, so let’s hope we can show our kids something decent, shall we?
