For the better part of 30 years now, Donkervoort has been credited with developing a barrage of sports cars hell-bent on a belief as innovative as is uncompromising. The culmination of a long and storied 35 years, the famed Dutch automaker prepares to unleash the bestial D8 GTO. Bearing an eerie resemblance to the original Lotus Seven, the modern iteration does, however, bear a bevvy of notable upgrades — namely in the concurrent chassis, hardware specs, and external makeup structure — just to point out a few.
Sporting a robustly muscular, shapely façade, founder Joop Donkervoort envisions this racer to be the first in a new generation of ancestral supercars. Bred blacktop and track-worthy, the new GTO — boasting a power-to-weight ratio of less than two — has already been typecast as one of the fastest street-legal cars in the world.
Telling the tale of sheer rawness, Donkervoort exposed their relevant relationship with Audi AG as the dynamic GTO plays host to a mounted Audi 5-cylinder 340 hp 2.5-litre TFSI engine — good for 450 Nm of torque starting at 1600 rpm, and 0 - 100km/h at a mere 2.8 seconds.
