Ever found yourself on the brink of a breakthrough, only to find yourself pulling back or hesitating? Or perhaps you’ve talked yourself out of pursuing a dream or long-held desire because it seemed just out of reach? If these scenarios sound familiar, you may be experiencing self-sabotage, a formidable foe that dwells within us all.
Self-sabotage is the internal battle where the negative voice in your head often wins. It's the voice that whispers, “You can’t do this, or this isn't possible” when in fact, you can and it is. But why do we engage in such self-defeating behaviours?
The road to reducing or eliminating self-sabotage is hard and can be painful as it forces you to confront truths about yourself that you may not wish to face.
Understanding Self-Sabotage
Self-sabotage occurs when you undermine your own success. Often driven by negative self-talk, doubt, and fear, and then manifesting in procrastination, unfulfilled dreams, worry, anger, and feelings of worthlessness. The challenge lies in identifying this behaviour because it often masquerades as reasonable doubt or caution. Sometimes, despite having the skills and desire, you find yourself stuck or unable to progress. When this happens to you then self-sabotage might be at play.
